12/16/04 - Fed up with frizzy hair!

Dear George
My hair is frizzy, and very hard to manage. I am fed up with having it in a pony tail! I want to have it done or cut in a way that I can style it easily, and will stop it from frizzing up while blow drying.

Treat the cause and you'll solve the problem.

The reason your hair is unmanageable, bushy, frizz, and dry is because you're trying to make your course, natural curly hair look and act like straight hair. You have one of the most beautiful hair types. Curly hair when cut to enourage the curl, and shaped to frame and fit the size of the head and face shape, will almost style itself at any length.

The style cut is simple. The top and sides are shortened and the length long in back. Because curly hair gets bushy, some selective thinning maybe needed to control the fullness. With a few adjustments, you'll fine the best lengths and shape for the curl. Your oval face shape and features will look best with the added softness and fullness which is what your hair wants to do naturally. I would avoid flat to the head, straight hair styles.

Whats more, with a good custom shaping (think tailor made, shaped to fit) you can let it air dry naturally in place with a styling aid and scruch it to encourage the curl. Or use a flat iron or large electric rollers to give it a straight, wavy, or dressy look with ease.

Your Friend and Guide,
George Caroll
